One day
Funicular up to Fourvière, walk down through the Roman theatres into Vieux Lyon and its traboules. Lunch in a bouchon. Cross the Saône, walk the Presqu'île from Bellecour to the Terreaux.
Two days
Day two: the Croix-Rousse slopes and their traboules in the morning, the Musée des Beaux-Arts, then across the Rhône to Les Halles.
Three days
Add the Tête d'Or, the Institut Lumière and a riverside walk on the quays.
Five days
Add two day trips: Pérouges and Vienne are both easy half-days; the Lugdunum museum and Gadagne fill a rainy afternoon.
A week
Add Annecy and the Beaujolais, and time simply to eat — Lyon is a city where lunch is the event.
